Fees and payment options change: the broker’s own pages are what counts. Your own bank may also charge for transfers.
How the list is put together
Which brokers. The list shows brokers that serve retail investors in the Netherlands and publish their fees. It is a selection, not the whole market.
In what order. Alphabetical by name, the same for everyone. No broker is placed first because of anything it pays or does.
Compensation. Whether we receive any compensation is stated in the line under the list above. That line comes from the same source as the broker list in the calculator, so the two cannot drift apart.
Where the facts come from. Every card links to the fee page we read and shows the month of the latest check. Fees change: what the broker itself publishes on its fee page is what counts.
What to compare
A fee list holds more than one amount. Brokers explained shows what a broker does for you, and on How a broker works we walk through eight items on a fee list with worked euro examples. To see what costs mean for your own situation, use:
Before you open an account
Questions worth asking any broker, and answering from its own documents:
- Which regulator supervises the broker, and in which country is it licensed?
- Is there an investor compensation scheme, and what does it cover and not cover?
- Where are your securities held, and are they kept apart from the broker’s own assets?
- Which costs apply to what you plan to do: buying, selling, converting currency, holding?
- Can you read the full fee list before you sign up, and is it dated?
- What happens to your account and your securities if the broker stops operating?
These are questions to ask, not a recommendation of any broker.
